Gold

Autumn in the Engadine is a time of transformation, where the landscape is bathed in a golden glow as the larch trees turn to rich, fiery hues. This season is one of my favorites to capture, as the contrast between the golden trees and the first dustings of snow creates a scene that is nothing short of mesmerizing.

As temperatures begin to drop, the air takes on a crispness, signaling the approach of winter. Yet, before the cold fully sets in, the larches offer a final burst of color, their needles shimmering like gold in the soft light. The beauty of this time lies in its fleeting nature—the golden foliage against the backdrop of snow-covered peaks is a sight that lasts only a few weeks.

I find myself drawn to these moments, where the warmth of autumn meets the chill of the impending winter. The interplay of light and shadow, the golden trees set against the white of fresh snow, and the deep blue sky above all come together to create a palette that is both vibrant and serene.

Photographing these scenes is a deeply rewarding experience. Each image feels like a treasure, capturing the ephemeral beauty of autumn as it gracefully transitions into winter. There is a sense of peace in these landscapes, a quiet reminder of the cycles of nature and the delicate balance between change and constancy.

In these golden days, the Engadine reveals a unique beauty, one that is both powerful and gentle. Through my lens, I aim to preserve this brief moment in time, to share the hypnotic contrast and the serene majesty of autumn’s last embrace.
